Policy Council
What Is Head Start Policy Council?
Policy Council is the governing body that directs our Head Start programs.
The Policy Council is comprised of parents representing their child’s classrooms. In addition, community members, including past parents are invited to be a part of the Policy Council.
The Policy Council meets regularly as a group. Members can serve for one year at a time, and for up to five years. They work closely with the program’s management team and governing body.
Policy Council representatives have the opportunity to actively participate in shaping the Head Start programs’ direction, ensuring that we are meeting the needs of children, families, and Program requirements through sharing ideas for classroom and home activities, the Program in general, and so much more!
Policy Council Member Responsibilities
Participating on the Policy Council
Serving on the Policy Council as a parent or a community member has a positive impact not only on the program but on those who serve on it.
Children, parents, and the program benefit when parents and community members take on leadership roles. Joining the Policy Council helps its members become more confident, gain skills, and connect with other parents, staff and the community. Program staff learn about the strengths, interests, and needs of the children, families, and community they serve.
Are you a parent of a child currently enrolled in our programs? Talk to your liaison or teacher if you are interested in joining the Policy Council!
We invite all other community members to connect with us if they are interested in joining the Policy Council! Send us an email.
