For Parents
We believe families are the child’s first and most important educators. That is why we strive to create opportunities for families to be actively involved in the program and their child/ren’s educational experiences – in the classroom and at home.
Getting children ready for school and life
We welcome all children at their own developmental level and support their growth in each stage, realizing that this is a unique and individual process for each child. We believe that growth occurs best in a safe, supportive environment where children are free to learn and explore their world, grow and develop through active learning experiences.
Parent participation in the Head Start programs
Parent involvement supports not only the programs, but most of all, the children in reaching their School Readiness Goals.
Parents can be a part of the programs at any level and in many different ways:
- volunteering;
- participating in Parent-focused events;
- being part of the parent-led Policy Council and participating in strategic decisions
- raising awareness of the programs in the community.
Holistic care for your child
From the moment your child joins York County Head Start programs to the moment they transition out of them, we are dedicated to supporting your child to grow healthy and happy!
Upon enrollment, we will work with you to ensure your child is up to date on their immunizations, and have a dental and medical home.
Our "Family Style" meals are both nutritious, supporting child's development needs, and a social experience teaching them to share with others and be independent.
Straightforward Pre-enrollment process
We are a Federal Program that offers free early childhood education to qualifying families. As such, there is a high demand and a waiting list for enrollment.
The earlier you begin with your application process, the higher the chance your child will secure a spot if your family qualifies.
Our Family Handbook is a testament to the quality of our program.
Our commitment to you and your family: Family Partnership Agreement
Soon after your child joins the program, you will meet with your Family Liaison to begin the Family Partnership process. The Family Liaison will help you create your own Family Partnership Agreement that identifies: strengths, interests, needs, wants, and goals. The Family Liaison will also be available to provide support in taking steps towards achieving identified goals and needs.
Some ways we can support you and your family includes but are not limited to:
- Assisting in referrals to other community resources;
- Assisting you to get household needs and clothing;
- Contacting services to help with crisis situations;
- Ensuring that your family receives all services to which it is entitled;
- Linking your family to other YCCAC support services.
